Smoke False Alarm Annoying

The smoke alarm goes off almost every time we use the stove or my wife uses one of the hundreds of sprays, perfumes, etc., she has that fill every crack and crevice of the camper.

I am tired of taking it off the ceiling. I know about mute buttons, plastic bags, aluminum foil wraps, etc. I just need one questions addressed: Is there a model out there with an on/off switch?
  • now that plastic cover is great call camping world put it in a package and sell them for $69.95 ea .

Now, that's just one of the best idearrrrs, we have seeeeen!:B

    Thanks for posting!
  • An on/off switch defeats the purpose of a smoke alarm. You turn it off when you cook, forget to turn it back on - no alarm. You turn it off when the perfume spraying starts, forget to turn it back on - no alarm. You turn if off when the air spray spraying starts, forget to turn it back on - no alarm. Yet all three times, you think you're safe because you haven't heard the alarm trigger.

If reasonable use with simple sprays are setting off the alarm, then it's possible the alarm is defective.

If the spray usage is really extreme, then you might need to suggest that in order to minimize the false alarms, wife will have to give up cooking or the sprays. Be prepared to increase your dining out budget.

  • Kidde P3010K-CO. Looked good at first, reducing false alarms. But I can't remember seeing worse reviews of a product on Amazon, more single stars than I care to risk $45 on.

A mute button is nice, if you can get to it before everyone else in the camper has been waked up by the alarm. My experience with them at home is the ten minutes is usually closer to one minute.

I'm afraid the lawyers and insurance companies, maybe even the feds, have dictated the design. R.I.P., free market!
  • This: available Home Depot, Amazon, etc.

Worry-Free Kitchen Photoelectric Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with 10 Year Sealed Battery

Kidde Worry Free Smoke Alarms offer a variety of benefits to the millions of Americans who rely on continuous battery-powered smoke and fire detection in their homes. The alarms are powered by sealed, long-life lithium batteries for 10 years (the life of the alarm), meaning they are always on. Each of the four alarms includes features designed to address location-specific safety needs. The Kidde Worry-Free kitchen smoke and carbon monoxide alarm has a unique sensor algorithm to detect real fires faster and reduce cooking-related nuisance alarms. A hush button temporarily silences nuisance alarms and the alarm has a photoelectric smoke sensor and a Nighthawk Carbon Monoxide sensor.
  • No, but adding a sub mini SPST is very easy. Thats what I have done over the years. Couple of dollars at Radio Shack, a short piece of wire and some solder and your ready to go.
  • No but there are models for kitchens that have a mute button. You push it before cooking and it keeps the alarm from going off for something like 10 minutes.
