Snow socks -- plastic sleeves for tires? Really?

I saw an ad for this and I thought it was a hoax, but apparently not: Snow socks instead of chains Do these things really work? They say it wicks away the moisture so your tires don't slide. D...

Ditto in Colorado. If CDOT has approved them in lieu of chains while going through the Rockies, they obviously work. :)
