So I am looking at a Pure Sine Wave 1000w inverter from Northern Tools for like $250.00 plus shipping. Are there any brands to stay away from?hbski wrote:

That first one is a rebranded Xantrex and it is quite good actually. Several forum members have one of those
And as I mentioned that first one also appears to be identical to my Motomaster Eliminator 1000 watt Pure Sine Wave Inverter from Canadian Tire #011-1892-4. Wording in the owner's manual is very much the same as that for the NPower labelled version sold by Northern Tools, as are the specs, the only difference I can see being that Canadian Tire warrants this inverter for 2 yrs. Regularly on sale for $199 Cdn + tax here in Canada (~ $150 US + tax) it's the best deal I've found on a reasonable quality true sine wave inverter of this size ... even smaller ones cost much more here. Betcha regardless of how they're labelled they all come from the same Chinese manufacturing facility. ;)
I would bet that the "Npower" inverter is a facsimile product, assembled in China and made expressly for Northern Tools. That is Northern's SOP for a lot of electronic items.
I don't shop there, anymore, even though they have a store close to me. I've been burned too many times and their return policy is either non-existent or very limited.
