It could if you wanted it to.
You can run some 120v things from the inverter instead of using the generator. What you can do for how long before the generator is needed (or solar) to then recharge the batteries depends on the set-up.
No, this Inverter/Charger is incapable of operating without a power source i.e. shore power or generator. https://www.donrowe.com/mobile/product.aspx?ProductCode=pm3%2D35lk&404;http://www.donrowe.com:80/powermax-pm3-35lk-converter-charger-p/pm3-35lk.htm=&gclid=CjwKCAiA3uDwBRBFEiwA1VsajAcc9VFfl__hcKgx1Odw2nG3xdC-NCyJdB8SXGNUdZ3kCsFM_Ke2kxoCLcMQAvD_BwE Here's a link to the unit.
That is a converter!!!! Also it is a good one, being a PowerMax. :)
It is not an inverter charger at all.
It is only a 35 amper, so it will take a long time to recharge any decent size battery bank, but it does not need a big generator to run it.
So you have some homework to do in order to understand more of all this stuff. I learned a lot from this book, so can recommend it. There are also books in the library about RV systems.
