Solar Controller Wiring Question

Hello all,

I’m almost finished with my solar installation on my motorhome. On the roof there are (3) 300 Watt Panels (rated current 8.26 Amps, rated voltage 36.6 Volts). From those solar panels are the #10 wires that come down to breakers in the solar combiner box.

I purchased an Outback FLEXmax 80 Solar Controller and it was recommended that I also purchase and install the OutBack PV Ground-Fault Detector Interupter (PNL-GFDI-80) and the OutBack Panel Mount Breaker/Switch (PNL-80-DC)

If anyone has good knowledge of these Outback products, would you be kind enough to advise me if my wiring diagram below is correctly wired. I also attached the OutBack schematic for the OutBack PV Ground-Fault Detector Interupter (PNL-GFDI-80)

Many thanks!

  • I believe the GFI is for 120V AC? Green is ground wire for 120V AC, white is neutral

Not 30V or 24V or 12V DC coming off your solar panels, and solar charge controller unit?

On the 12V side only... white or red is for positive wiring, and black is for negative wiring.

Don't mix the 12V DC system and components up with the 120V AC system.
  • I've not yet heard of or seen anyone using a GF box on solar, or grounding them at all. That controller will easily handle those panels in series sans combiner box.
