What sold me on a MPPT controller was a Youtube channel I subscribe to. With a PWM controller, the person making the video got 1-6 amps on a clear day, and if lucky, would be able to get some decent charge. By switching to a Tristar MPPT controller, he was able to easily get 20+ amps and his battery bank would be at float around 10:00 AM to noon.
Even with solar panels so relatively inexpensive, there is only so much square feet I have available on a rooftop, so with that in mind, paying the premium for a MPPT controller allows me to use what relatively little wattage I might have.
