Just got to say it again, how it is we are sitting here for five months off grid on solar with no problems at all (third season on solar like this), using the non-programmable, non-MPPT, solar control...

You've got it! BFL is talking, and you will have to listen, because until somebody throws hard earned money away and gets both MPPT and PWM and tries both on a few different PV arrays, there is no data to confirm or rebut what BFL says :)... There are manufacturers claims, though, "up to 30% more" amps of MPPT at the same charging V, but we are not that gullible!
