That was my point. Compare the low priced PWM controller to a low price MPPT controller and the higher voltage system becomes more attractive.
Would we be discussing affordable solar at all if the Chinese played fair? Would affordable controllers of either type be available without low panel prices creating the demand for them?
I thought smaller systems were going to remain 12v but the recent ads for low priced smaller high voltage panels kills that thought. Mex may be right, soon you might save a lot on the controller but the panels are going to cost more.
