I did not for the first two times but did get water boiling out so I think the last 2 times I removed the caps. You said to shut off the 12 volt items so if yours is the same as ours we have a 12 volt shutoff just inside the basement on the left. Water should be check before and after. It does take some time and 50 amps might be needed.
I have not done this for several years. just lazy maybe.

Yes, I killed the 12v power to the rig, checked the water levels, then equalized. I can hear it bubbling but none coming out that I can see, been checking regularly and the caps are on. I left the doors open for ventilation. I'll recheck the water levels after. That shut-off is nice unless you accidentally hit it without knowing then can't figure out why nothing is working.
