If there is already some small solar in place, inherited with the rig - then just let it run all the time, with grid and without, it will augment "some" but don't expect a lot of savings.
Running solar in lieu of grid when there is a grid available, is rarely practical in RV.
There will always be grid available. It's all over. the question is if I want to use it. Again, I am interested in a lot of different kinds of experiences and don't plan very far ahead. This idea that everyone wants to have one kind of experience doesn't resonate with me. If I'm at a national park and busy hiking and biking then a month or so without any shore power would be fine. I could live without "homey" for that amount of time but I don't wish to live the boondocker life full-time. Nor do I want to be hooked up to a post full-time. It's not just about money for me. I'd like to use some green energy, which another reason generators don't really appeal.
I learned a lot from the last thread and appreciate those who helped me navigate solar 101. I have a good sense of the possibilities now.
