Series panels with bypass diodes can provide more power with some shadow conditions than parallel panels with the same shadow. My panels are similar to many in that there are 3 bypass diodes and each one can bypass 20 of the 60 cells so you get the same amps and 2/3 the voltage when one bypass diode is operating. For parallel that panel would have no output. There is a thread with testing on series vs parallel that is several years old and I'll see if I can find the link.
Having said that there are other considerations and many opinions on serial vs parallel.
A disadvantage of the MPPT 60 is that the efficiency decreases as the difference between the battery voltage and the array voltage increases.
