We are from Oregon, address is still Oregon. We have both. There ARE rainy times when a generator is needed and times when solar is just fine. :) So go for both. Seriously, we were in AZ and had 3 days of rain....would have not had any battery life if we were depended only on panels. BUT, I DO love the panels...:) :)
agree completely. (we are also from oregon) I've had solar for 3 years now. Most of the time solar has done everything I needed. My generator use has gone way way down now that we have solar. But if you camp often, and camp around the country you will find
a) places or times where there are enough trees, rain or cloud cover that solar won't keep up
b) places hot enough that you will want the AC on
c) times when you say "I wish I could turn on the microwave, etc.)
d) no sun and cold so your running the furnace, IMHO the biggest drain on the batteries.
I have a transfer swith and 1000W inverter so I can run the microwave etc. when needed on the batteries.
