Lets see now, solar=silence generator=noisy+stinky, no contest.
We have a 185W high voltage panel with an MPPT controller which will produce usable current from sun up to sun down and with shaded camp sites.
We spent 8 days on the north shore of Lake Superior we had maybe one hour of unshaded sun on the panel.
I set the trailer up for serious boondocking, LED lights etc. We when we are boondocking use a french press coffee maker, gas grill, cook top, hot water heater. We do have a 300W inverter which we use to watch the TV/DVD.
The rule, nothing that uses resistance heat or uses a great deal of power. We do have a WAECO 12V refrigerator, form factor of a large ice chest. It is or largest current consumer. I monitor the 150AH battery with a Victron monitor. at the end of the 8 days we were a 64% SOC. We have another 135W flexible panel that can be put out in the sun, but did not use it.
