As you see by the posts, your camping style has a lot to do with what system you rely on the most. Generators are the most convenient to run your electric needs but because of restrictions on use in some campgrounds and how much tolerance to generator noise, solar systems in RV,s, boats, homes have become very common and affordable.
There is a cost to any system or combination you choose but my own personal experience and by what I have learned over the time spent on these forums, solar system usage and greater electrical storage capacity(batteries) have become hot topics.
We carry our Honda 2000 with us at all times although we almost never use it. Solar and the alternator meet our electrical needs in hundreds of nights of dry camping/ boondocking and this is with an all electric fridge which is our biggest electric user.
As long as we avoid really hot areas in the summer ,we can do without A/C in favour of fantastic fans , 330W solar and 4 6V AGM batteries.
Until they develope a generator that is as quiet as a small fan, solar will be my 1st choice in running our electrical system.
