With your system at over 100Vdc of array voltage, the efficiency of the buck conversion within the MPPT controller is limited. I would guess if you did a series parallel array configuration with a Voc of say 50Vdc you could gain another 5 to 7% increase. However this is just a guess without ever actually seeing your system.
Yes 550 watts can deliver over 40amps. I do not look at my systems as battery chargers instead they are POWER SOURCES with the added benefit of keeping my battery bank charged up. It's not very often that my two GC batteries will except anywhere near 40amps of current however the external loads can and do easily consume that and more.
