Solar Panel Mounting

I used 8 Z brackets on my four full size panels. No issues in 20K miles, Not ONE budged. Don't recall hitting amy rafters.

The placement of the screws is part of the mounting considerations.

I did not even try to get a rafter. I did use 3M exterior double back tape and two screws in each bracket, and then covered with Dicor.

I followed what mello mike did on his web site. I used 3m double sided tape with stainless steel screws. My front 2 screws did go in to the aluminum rafter cross piece, but the back 2 screws are just in to the plywood.

Yeah, I wish I had done that.

here's what I made for mine there are 3 screws into the roof 1 1/2" angle and 1" flat bar the part on the roof 6" long and the one on the panel 3". these panels are 60 x36 and there are 3 sets on each panel.

One thing, however you locate them, is to be able to remove the panel without having to get the brackets out of the roof. Sometimes you have to check/fix the wiring under there.

Any old place. They've held for 6000 miles so far.
