OK, 6x12. Consider the 6 vertical and 12 horizontal. If you have diodes I would expect 3 and for them to each cover a 2 vertical x12 horizontal array and you would want to cover those sections one at a time.
If you were to cover 6 vertical cells then that would cause all 3 diodes to bypass.
