Couple of things to consider:
A small 100 to 200 watt system is all many of us need. Inexpensive panels and a $15.00 PWM controller can get you into solar very inexpensively. We dry camp for weeks on end with such a system.
2 12 volt panels in series are 24 volts. You can use two smaller 12 volt panels due to space limitations. You can start with 12 volt panels and turn them into 24 volt panels later if needed/wanted.
The money we spent on a 2000 watt Honda gen a while back could have paid for our solar and a 1000 watt Honda for use the few times we need one.
