Generally a 12V parallel panel with partial shade will be ineffective. In series with bypass diodes the voltage of a panel will be reduced say by 1/3 but the remaining 2/3 contributes to the overall voltage at the given amps.
I've posted 3 threads that show the positive effect of bypass diodes. Hopefully there will be additional shade opportunities to help further understand the effect.
