Are "bypass diodes" something that are relatively new? My Kyocera panels are 8 years old. When one panel is even slightly shaded, maybe 10-20 percent, then the output seems to stop and I record the charging amps which can be attributed to the other panel by itself. If both panels are shaded about 10-20 percent, then the charging amperage drops to nearly zero.
