Solar question. Two panels same 24v , Series/parallel math

OK. So I have these panels. 280 watt LG,s I currently use one with an ecoworth 20 amp mppt. Max volts is 50 volts for controller hence one panel.. I can get 17 amps or so out of it normally... T...

I’ll have to measure the wire. I believe it’s about 40 ft of 8 gauge. Would it be true series would get me charging earlier and better I low light conditions. ?
