I don't think there exist 30A or 40A MPPT a lot more expensive than closely comparable model only because it has many features useless to most consumers. Very few would buy it.
Apples to apples, prices of solar controllers don't really vary wildly. MPPT cost more than PWM, higher amps cost more than lower amps, real things cost more than clones. Stolen goods are always cheaper, and besides, very cheap Chinese clones are lacking features that are usually considered important for a dependable system, like remote temperature sensing, volt sensing, remote monitoring etc. Not to mention quality. Morningstar 30 is not a clone, it's made in China but designed and QC-ed by decent US corporation. Though it still puzzles me how they have managed to make it more expensive than US-made Rogue 30.
