Agreed. If the 12 volt fit better stay with good 12 volt batteries. There are some advantages to 6's in terms of longevity and capacity but there are a couple of advantages to staying with 12's as well, especially if you only have two. Eg, if you have 6's and one fails while out camping you are kinda hooped. If you have 12's you can simply disconnect one.
We run 2 x group 31 12 volt AGM batteries in our little rig and 8 x 6 volts in our big rig. When the 6's are done we will replace them with for 8D AGMs.
