Solar voltage help...

I just connected my solar kit (160w cmp12 controller)and the voltage while connected to the rv batteries reads 16.55v. Is this normal or too high? Sorry but im new to this.

  • If it is the voltage measured at the battery, it's too high. If it's the voltage going into the controller from the solar panel it may be normal.
  • Disconnect it from the batteries!

Clearly stated in the manual for that controller full charge voltage 13.7

Yah.. which seems even too high for that.

Disconnect it immediately. Find an old battery and connect the panel directly to it, bypassing the controller. If that voltage reads the same then there's something wrong with the controller.
  • Thats the model of controller it csme with. Voltage was measured with two meters. It wasnt doing this earlier today. Not sure what to do next.
  • Any chance the battery inside the voltmeter is old? Tends to give high reading.

Otherwise it would seem to be an equalization mode that should be turned off.

And yes anything above 15.3 is too high for the RV.
