The mechanical advance flyweights are NOT part of the distributor shaft. They are attached with pins and springs to arc with centrifugal force.

Look into the possibility of purchasing a "High Alkyd" distributor cap, and rotor. Jacobs or similar ilk 10mm secondary wire set. With the price of fuel being the next best thing to a torture chamber, saving fifty to a hundred gallons per year makes sense.
