Shirley you jest!
Sheesh, grampa! You can reduce the youtube video quality all the way down to 144 pixels horizontal. Even your circa 1950s dial-up can load that video as fast as a Federale can take your disposable pesos.
Alright...
Suffice it to say...
She's running.
Here's the youtube message body...
Before new distributor... no life. After new distributor... she lives! Road tested 5 or so miles and ran strong. Still... after this ordeal... all I can be is... cautiously optimistic.
$50 delivered, Skip White unit supposed to be well thought of and comparable to MSD, etc... all made in China. After the bankruptcy, Delcos are no longer made in the USA either.
Known issues with modules overheating possibly linked to improper mounting, i.e. not proper contact with heat sink. This one appears to be mounted well. Still... I will carry a spare.
I was unable to find an HEI from GM. Can you believe that??? I suspect the problem may have laid with him just looking up my year of P30 when this, particular HEI was used for many years on big block Chevys. May not be any good anyway after the bankruptcy. Same is said to go for today's Delco modules. If you can find an old one sitting on the shelf of some old shop, grab it!
Also tried the wrecking yards. None in Southern Oregon. Wanted $150 to $250 for used ones delivered between yards. And even then... no mileage of units would be provided.
I set her to idle a little on the high side many years ago when the electric choke failed. She's not exactly a groceries runner, so she doesn't spend a ton a' time at idle.
And no, that's not some hot Isky cam you're hearing. It's an exhaust leak. My mechanic looked at it and said, "Well... it's not too bad. It's not really hurting anything. I suppose if I'm real careful, I MIGHT be able to pull the manifold without losing the bolts. But more than likely I'll have to drill 'em out. So do you really want to spend this kind of money on a 1986 Motorhome with 105,000 miles?"
Thanks to all those on rv.net who worked so hard to solve this mystery!
