330% increase in tractive ability with the serpentine 5-rib. Here's one:
6-71 Detroit running an alternator off the blower drive. Commercial salmon boat. When trolling, engine is running about 1200 RPM. Blower drive is 50% of that. Limited budget, no $3,000 8-9/16" Leece Neville alternators. Batteries discharging 40+ amps. Front pulley on engine absolutely inaccessible.
Oh what do you do? Failure is not an option
Use a MoPar 4091460 alternator. Pulley pressed on not bolted. .670" 17mm shaft. Allows room for a 1-1/4" GILMER BELT PULLEY. Chose 5/8" shaft and bored .625" to .669"
Purchased 7" GILMER BELT pulley for blower drive. The absolute maximum diameter that would fit.
Math 560% overdrive ratio
1200 X 5.6 = 6,700 RPM
550 RPM idle X 5.6
120 Amperes at troll
108 amperes at dead slow idle.
Total parts cost $388
I had free King splitter fillets for two seasons. We won't talk about the Shakers.
