One reason NASCAR uses compressed nitrogen vs compressed air is a safety factor. Compressed air contains enough oxygen to be a combustion accelerator. Not good in a NASCAR pit.
You might be able to put out a small fire with a blast of compressed pure nitrogen.
Compressed air is actually classified as a hazardous material by DOT---as an oxidizer, hazard class 5.1.
