Stuck cable to black tank valve

When I went to dump the tanks for the first time, had a bad surprize when the handle wouldn't budge. It is a used Sunnybrook '06 5th wheel. I called the dealer where I bought it and the manger said he checked the records on it and everything checked out fine before I took it home. I have sprayed to cable handle with PB Blaster, poured 15 gallons of hot water and Dawn soap down the toilet, hoping to break the valve free (if that was the problem). Now I have the bottom of the trailer open and can get to the valve. I was hoping to replaced the cable that runs to the valve, but am afraid it is all one piece. Ameri-Kart makes the tank, but I can't find any info on the valve. Anyone know if that 6' cable can be replaced, or is it all one assembly?

  • Got the cable fixed. Glad it didn't cost me anything ( ins covered it and dealer waived the deductible) but still have trouble believing it froze up in short time I have owned it. I assumed the dealer would be dropping the bottom like I had and they would straighten it out, as I was in a hurry and it had a couple wrinkles in it. All they did was cut an access hole in the bottom and tape it up when they were done. I should have asked. Shame on me. Any newbies reading this, don't assume anything. For the fuel it cost to drive it there and back, could have paid top dollar close to home. Good learning experience.
  • There is usually a set screw that secures the cable where it fits into a collar on the valve. Loosen that screw and then try to operate the cable. If the cable moves freely, the problem is NOT the cable. In any case you will have to open that screw to change the cable. It is usually a Hex screw.

  • Yes, the cable can be replaced without replacing the valve body. There's a guy on eBay selling the 72" cables for a good price. I've never ordered from him so can't vouch.
