Suburban H2O Heater

I have a SW6D. When turning on the switch the reset light comes on and nothing else happens. The reset button does nothing and is not popped out (not sure if its supposed to).
When testing the circuit to the gas valve with a test light as soon as I touch the connector to the brown wire with the other end grounded the unit fires right up. It heats completely then shuts down and won't turn on again unless I do the same thing.
I'm guessing it's the control module but before I go buy one I wanted to check here first.
Any thoughts?

  • Terminals clean, ground good, 40 Ohms x 2 check.
Again the reset light is instantly on and nothing happens unless I ground out one of the solenoids. Does this mean it IS getting a signal from the control module? I mean unless it's getting some type of signal simply grounding it out shouldn't jump-start it.
Doesn't make sense to me since there is a good ground.

  • Here is a link to a Previous Experience

As stated the normal resistance is about 40 Ohms but it will need to fully fail before you can depend on resistance readings.
  • If your unit has 2 solenoid coils it may be going through an initial intermittent stage and on its way to a complete failure. The complete failure is when one of the 2 gas valve solenoid coils goes open circuit.
  • Dirty/Loose wiring or lug electrical connection, would be my 1st suspect area to check.

Good luck and welcome to RVnet.
