suburban hot water heater

I have a 5th wheel with a suburban model sw12del hot water heater that fails to heat in the electric mode. It is only 14 months old and I am thinking about replacing the element. Is it a big job for someone who has not replaced one before? I have a volt/ohm meter but frankly have never used it, but can learn.. any advice? thanks

Has it EVER worked? If not, could be a little switch on the face of the heater. Not easy to see, at least on the 6-gallon version.
  • Check dedicated circuit breaker in your power panel and the re-set able high-limit snap disc on the tank.
  • my electric element lasted about 4yrs (I think); bought a replacement and needed socket at Lowes.
  • I think there is a high temp limit switch that can be reset. Check your manual and try that first. It seems unlikely that the element could be bad unless it was burned out by heating without water in it.
