suburban hot water heater

my 10 gallon suburban hot water heater works fine on gas.when i switch to electric the water heats up fine, but does not turn the temp. down and i burn out the elec. element.i have burnt out 3 elements the last one melted the wires at the screws that connect the wires to the element.yes i make sure the tank is full before turning on the water heater.the first time this happened it was under warranty and the dealer said it was a bad element, maybe 1 but not 3.
  • Suburban have 2 tstat assbly's, one for LP and one for 120. BOTH have the tstat AND the ECO. If the tstat fails the ECO will trip. You need to replace BOTH the 120 tstat and the 120 ECO. Doug
  • It sounds like the electric thermostat might be bad. These units have two thermostats, one for electric and one for propane. I would replace the electric thermostat before I went any further. It isn't hard to change and not expensive.
