I can remember doing this, and discovered that by leaving the valves open when installing, it allows more clearance for getting them back in place. But, I will NEVER replace just the seals again ! I replaced them BC they were leaking, but I ended up w/ very hard moving valves, and no visible reason for it. I should have replace the complete valves,....not that expensive.
