I finally got rid of the smell. It seems to have been bacteria hiding out in the unused water lines for a washing machine. However, it took two treatments including those lines. I used "TastePURE Spring Fresh" by CAMCO which called for a gallon for the size of my system, and to let it set for 10 minutes before flushing. (I waited 30 minutes before flushing.) No good. The smell was back a couple of days later. So I did it again using 2 gallons and letting it set for 24 hours. It has now been 3 weeks and the smell has not returned.
Thanks for all of the responses.
