Surge Guard protection... Worth it?

After the transfer switch. Generators can go kerflooey too. You have a choice of protecting from the generator, and risking the transfer switch to a lightning strike, or protecting the transfer switch and risking everything in the RV to a generator malfunction.

Personally, I would rather risk the transfer switch.

Before the transfer. Some people do it either way but it comes down to a matter of which you fear most, a lighting strike or a generator over speed condition. The lightening strike is more probable so put the ems before the transfer. If my rig had the generator on board and permanently wired I would have the ems before the transfer. The directions show either way.

My EMS was installed first and the transfer switch later so mine is after the transfer. The argument against doing this is that a campground power problem could take out the transfer switch and back feed and damage the generator. My generator cord is never plugged into the generator the few times I'm ever on shore power so it has not been a concern. My transfer could still be damaged but not the gen. When doing my next phase of major mods and wiring I may move everything. I hope I explained it correctly. Others probably have more experience with it.

Agree. Randy at Bestconverter.com has them and I'd get one. I'm intrigued about dudes comment above on the 50 amp model though. Regardless, lifetime warranty, better price and better protection makes the Progressive the one for us.

EMS-HW50C is $305 on your doorstep from RVSafety (good, out of the house business owned by fellow campers)! I just heard that TechnoRV is just a reputable and even puts up a booth at the Forest River Goshen Rally. Selling the 50A unit for the same $305 to your door. Best price anywhere, and you can absolutely wire the 50A for a 30A trailer now and keep it for life! Requires nothing but a terminal jumper, but like I said confirm it for yourselves. PI is very much customer service-oriented!

Easy install if you are at all handy. Simple white wire here, black wire there, green wire over that way. Lots of videos on how to do it.

The one mentioned by the OP does all you mentioned...

Don't bother with the 30A hardwired. Go directly with the 50A. It can be used with a jumper in 30A applications (feel free to check with Progressive, but it's fact) that way you can take it with you when you upgrade and have a 50A unit. More and more TTs are coming standard with 50A.
