There is a difference between surge protection and EMS. You want the EMS the one that cost more money BUT does more protection.
X2 Mere surge protection is false security compared to an EMS system. The EMS will protect your electrical system from high or low voltage as well as surge protection and a host of other features.
Picture this.... you are sitting at your site on a nice warm day. the AC is on, life is good. Later that day as the afternoon gets warmer everybody and their dog turns on their AC and cranks it up. The voltage throughout the CG drops like a stone, I've seen it drop from 120 to 100 in minutes. If you are lucky your AC shuts down, if not it continues trying to run on the low voltage taking years off of the life of your compressor if not frying it altogether.
The EMS will also alert you when plugging into the pedestal if there are any problems, bad ground, open neutral, reverse polarity etc.and prevent any bad juice from ever reaching your rig.
The decision is not whether or not to get an EMS, you should, it is not what brand, Progressive Industries is a no brainer but you do have to decide on portable or hard wired and a case can be made for either depending how and where you will use it.

x2 - low voltage can shorten the life of your air conditioners, televisions, refrigerator, water heaters, etc. They may not go out right away which is why some folks never make the connection between electrical items going bad and having been connected to bad power. Progressive Industries is the way to go.
