surge protector

going for extended stays and traveling starting this summer and the question of surge protectors came up again. the dealer says there is one in the keystone hideout trailer (24ft.) but hearing some pretty bad stories about replacing wiring got me thinking. do i really need one and then there is the variety of protectors and cost. our trailer is basic, has tv, micro, fridge, etc. would the gfci surge guard for 30 amp at around $80 do the job? it does say for entry level trailers and minimum electronics. the others cost over and near $300! thanks in advance.
  • Add up the cost of new A/C, TV's, Refrig electrical components, chargers and etc. and compare the cost between a good surge guard and replacement of these items. Then make your decision. An $80 unit won't protect you from low or high voltage or miss-wired pedestals.
