Surge protector?
Is this really needed? We have new Winnebago A sightseer. I can see its purpose,but how often is this an issue? Does hot temps affect power or just poor power availability? And, if needed, what ty...

I have never used one. I check the power-pole at the campground for correct wiring, and voltage out-put.
I pull the plug if a strong electrical storm is coming. If you are unlucky enough to get hit by a lightning-bolt the surge protector will not help you. I keep my insurance coverage up.
