"Surge Protection" in most device is a joke. What you get is SPIKE supression (A bunch of MOV's Metal Oxide Varisistors)
But a true surge,, lasting more than a fraction of a second. those turn into firecrackers (been here, heard the show).
The HW-50C or the Southwire competing product will shut off power if that happens to protect you
The Autoformer helps with low voltage and one model with slightly high but if it goes too low/high the autoformer is overwhelmed.. If you plug into 220 by mistake the device is of no use (And may well fry)
But the HW-50C or the Southwire equivalent. WILL PROTECT YOU.
