Not exactly sure what you mean by "twisted in the sliding arms", but if the arms/fabric look cockeyed, it may be that the fabric has shifted in the channel it slides into. Everything has to be square to work properly- when deployed, arms should be at right angles to the body of the rig. If the fabric shifts a few inches, it throws the whole thing off. The fabric is supposed to have retaining screws to keep it from moving, but they can fall out and even be forgotten at time of install. If this appears to be the case with yours, you can adjust it by opening the awning all the way without extending the braces, then relieve tension on the fabric by propping the roller on a ladder or something. Then tug at the fabric at whichever end of the rail it needs to go until everything's square again.
