Wow! Very diverse opinions on this subject...
I have a rinnai tankless water heater in my home. No problems with temperature regulation - it has a modulating burner that monitors outgoing temp and ramps up as necessary to maintain 120 F with increasing flow.
And yes - it has a 125,000 btu burner, but, it only fires when hot water is used. No standby losses like a tank model. There is plenty of evidence that tankless water heaters save propane... Personally I estimate 30% less propane used!
I've been waiting until I need a New heater - I plan to install a tankless unit in the TT!
I have a Rinnai as well. It works great at home, however there is noticeable delay in the amount of time it takes to get hot water coming out vs. a conventional heater. That delay is OK at home but in an RV that delay may result in too much wasted water.
I'm curious as to how well it works.
I will add I'm not sure I see the need in an RV. My 10 gallon heater keeps us in all the hot water we need. Much like dual pane windows there is very little cash savings incentive.
I can heat my water for free when on electric. If boondocking you generally have limited resources.
Does it make sense to take a long hot shower if you have a limited water supply?
When boondocking you are generally trying to conserve water vs. taking a extra long hot shower.
If on full hook ups, electric is included in site fee leaving little to no savings benefit. What am I missing?
