For many campers, drinking heavily seems to go hand in hand with the great outdoors. It's not just camping though...
Our western society seems to support and encourage heavy drinking. Every celebration and sporting event is tied to alcohol. Even at the morning weekend farmers market, they're selling locally grown alcohol. By the afternoon, they're selling tap beer and shots, at a farmers market.
Every tourist trap weekend my local town puts on involves alcohol - fishing contest + beer tent, chili contest + beer tent, raise money for vets at the beer tent, Sunday matinee; under 18 your first pitcher is free at the beer tent.
