Autonomous cars would also solve the DUI problem....hit the "home" button and get in the back seat.
I don't think the blow n go is a bad idea....you always read in the paper about the guy with 11 DUIs, etc., but the large majority of DUIs are regular folks who don't have a drinking problem, but maybe had one too many beers at an outing or family function...just regular folks, not criminals.
Most states have lowered the limit from .10% to .08%, that did nothing to keep the hard core repeat offenders off the streets, it just resulted in more arrests....so in addition to the guy who had 4 beers at the family BBQ you also got the guy who had 3 beers....
The problem is that the law requires folks to use their judgement to gauge when they've had too much to drive, and your judgement is impaired from the get-go when you have a drink. Stiff penalties do nothing because most folks don't intend to DUI, they simply misgauge their BAC.
The best solution IMO is to go to 0.00 BAC like Sweden, ie there is NO acceptable limit. If you have even one drink then you don't drive. This eliminates the need for people who have been drinking to figure out if they are still OK to drive.
