I have a buddy that was court ordered to have the analyzer in his truck. He operates a lawn and landscaping business, a small endeavor but has multiple trucks for the business. His court order mandated one vehicle, only. He hated the thing because at every stop, it was a blow and pause for the truck to operate.
Up here, in MN, we even had the analyzers with a digital camera to identify the blower. It was rather unsophisticated as the image rendered and transmitted was small but did take some of the avoidance issues away.
My buddy hated the system and payed for the installation and monthly charges. It was a good deterrent for further DUI events, IMO. He now does not drink and drive, even for one beer, doesn't visit bars and, AFAIK, is not offending in any way so my impression is that the analyzers do deter some folks from reoffending.
Impaired driving is terrible. The advent of driverless cars is coming whether we like it or not. Fleet based driverless cars are estimated to remove a lot of personal ownership in the near future. We will probably see riders stoned to the bone falling out of these cars.
RFID is also on the horizon. All Walmart distribution centers have the store items tagged. Every item for the Defense Dept (armed forces, etc.) is tagged with RFID. Some Walmart stores use RFID, now. It will be common within five years. The nice thing about this tech, besides avoiding an exit checkpoint, is that you can fill your shopping cart and, at the checkout station, a clerk won't be needed to scan each item. The total purchase and item identity will be tabulated by the RFID scanner.
