I am a plumber, and it has been decades since I last used ABS -- everything since has been PVC. Anyways, what we used to do when we had a split in a piece of ABS pipe was get a soldering iron/gun (or a red-hot nail in a pinch) and melt the ABS along the center of the crack. While the ABS was very hot and melted, we would push the melted plastic together in the middle -- we would do about a half-inch at a time, but keeping the entire length of the repair continuous. This almost always worked for 100% of the split on the first shot. If one section didn't work, we would try to re-do it, but for some reason, ABS didn't like to be melted a second time and it didn't always work. We would even do this fix while we had a water test on the system, so I know it will work if you have a little bit of nasty water left in your tank and pipe.
