Yes I do believe in temp comp as such, as stated in the OP.
The focus should be on any evidence that having a sensor right on the battery is better-- and by how much-- than just having the temp comp sensor at the same ambient temp as where the batteries are. (and following along with the same temp changes during the day of course)
Then you could decide what is worth it in dollars to have whichever costs more. If it is not enough difference in outcome, save your money for something else.
That leaves how you would measure the "outcome" You might use ability or not to reach battery baseline SG when recharging. Will one way prevent thermal runaway while the other lets it happen?
IMO no temp comp vs ambient temp comp could be critical, but doubt there is any reason to pay extra for the on battery sensor method vs just the ambient method.

PT, no I did not remote the Solar30's temp antenna. I don't have a 12v panel anymore to connect the Solar30 to. Maybe someday.
