I agree that if the change in actual battery core temperature vs. ideal operating core temperature is small, then no real reliability issues will occur.
However, if the delta is big, then reduced cycle life will occur due to deep undercharging or severe overcharging. A fixed or nearly fixed voltage charge rate for all core temperatures is not good for the battery chemistry.
If temperature compensation technology is available, IMHO it makes sense to use it.
However, we are all free to experiment as we please.
