Temperature correcting hydrometer

I check my 6v Costco Interstate batteries regularly. Currently the hydrometer is reading 1.275 to 1.280 on all cells. The temperature correction chart indicates add 2. Does this mean that the corrected reading is 1.277 to 1.282?

  • Your photo is a good reason why some folks hate hydrometers.
temp in Fahrenheit on one side of the tube, green to add and red to subtract numbers in Fahrenheit on the other side of the glass tube. Celsius would be an option.

    Francis Freas makes reading easier.
  • does this help? Is there a decimal point on that example for the sg of battery.

Colder electrolyte is more dense, so the bobber floats higher, SG reads as higher.

That's interesting but non responsive to my question.
