You don't say what and how many LEDs are used, for example, 24-5050 LEDs, so its hard to say what to expect. Also whether or not the LED bulbs contain a voltage regulator will affect the heating, especially when the converter output gets up around 14v.

Each little light is an LED. There are many kinds of LEDs, 5050 is one type as is 3528 or 1210, and many other. The advertisement for the lights should indicate what LED type was used. The 5050 has 3 LEDs in the same package and tends to run warm.
