Hi,So she’s been back there before...Likes to pull the cover off the thermostat.This time, she pulled the thermal expansion spring out.(She did this just as i was finishing fixing the last thing she messed up. Lol)Anyway, my questions..Current thermostat is a mechanical Suburban. Has on/off switch and temperature setting. I haven’t yet pulled it off, so I don’t know how many wires are serving the thermostat. All i know is that there are two that go short/open for heat or no heat.What are my replacement options?Do i have to stick with the RV mechanical units or do i have the option of going to a digital unit?Thanks in advance of your help.groundhogy

The mechanical just has the 2 wires. All the Tstat does is connect(close) the 2 wires to make a circuit back to the furnace. So, just replace with another Mechanical. Digital units will require extra wiring you will not have at the existing tstat. Doug

It's self powered with an internal battery and all that connected to it were the 2 wires that were wired to the original bi-metal thermostat.I also used that very same thermostat in our TrailCruiser hybrid.In both those campers the thermostat controlled just the furnace but in our KZ Spree which had ducted A/C the thermo controlled both the furnace and the A/C but I used the same wires that were wired to the original thermostat.

If you have the simple two wire thermostat go to HD or Lowe's and get a simple digital non-programmable thermostat. It's a very easy hookup and it will give more accurate temperature control. You will thank your daughter for pulling the old one apart.

If you do decide to go with an electronic one, it must be powered with it's own battery. RV heating units run on 12 DC and home one use 24v AC for control power.Dusty

I have this one in a rental condo works fine. Can't remember if it is battery powered. Generally these home units are designed to switch 24vac but should work fine if battery powered.

That one will work just fine. I found mine at Walmart for a bit cheaper though it was a few years ago. I think any of the digitals with a battery backup will do what you're looking for. Here's a $22 from Home Depot
